Admire a fine private collection of Mexican folk art, and learn about the passion of the couple who collected it, at Casa de los Venados, the art gallery and home of American couple John and Dorianne Venator. Having bought the house in ruins, the couple spent 10 years remodeling it and filling it with over 3,000 items of Mexican folk art. Colorful skulls, antique furniture, and vibrant paintings dominate each room, bringing together different artistic styles and influences from across the country. Take a tour of the house, still home to the Venators, and learn about the history of the project. To visit Casa de los Venados and other attractions in Valladolid, use our Valladolid trip planner.

  • A real treasure trove of artworks from across Mexico presented in the very special setting of a wonderful privately owned house. Excellent, informative guide.

  • Amazing unique art gallery / museum / home. We had such an interesting tour by Sergio. The house is beautiful and the art throughout every room is stunning. Hearing about the art, the house, and the owners along the way was great too. Really recommend it. They have guided tours most days at 10:00 11:30 13:00 14:00 and 15:00. Just ring the bell and they'll let you in.
  • A personal elaborate art collection in the elaborate personal house opposite the main square. It is very interesting even though I am no culture vulture. There are personal tours normally 10 am, 11.30, etc, in English and Spanish. The 100 peso charge is given to the local community. Ring the bell, and they will confirm the next time. As is next to the main square and church, there is plenty to see and do(drinks, snacks) if there is a slight delay
  • Imagine a place full of beautiful Mexican arts, crafts, sculptures, paintings where all donations given by clientele go entirely to local causes and those in need. Whilst the website offers guided tours at 10 am, there are actually about 4 a day, giving many more people the opportunity to view these treasures. By the way, the tour by our guide David was interesting and entertaining. Highly recommended.
  • It is a private house in Valladolid but open to public for guided tours at certain time each day. Everything in this house is a piece of art: the architecture, facilities, furniture, decors, and many artworks from Mexico. The staff working there are super friendly and the tour provides very interesting stories of the house. Highly recommend to visit this place if you are in Valladolid!
  • I have absolutely loved this museum, which is not museum, but house of two Americans collecting Mexican art and donating money from visitors to charity. Our guide “David” was fabulous, one of the best guides so far. Many very exquisite pieces, even bathroom is full of statues. House itself is nice. Just make sure to come there on time, sooner the better. Tour are from 10Am/ 11:30 Am/ 1Pm / 2 Pm and 3 Pm. Entry is form of donation. Best class experience. Much better than “Mystika” in Tulum ( that sucks) or nearby Cocho story museum ( boring)
