Create an itinerary including Jewish Cemetery
The largest cemetery of its type in the world, Jewish Cemetery, with its ruined synagogue from World War II, provides a thought-provoking reminder of the Holocaust. Respectfully walk the avenues of the dead, which cover 100 hectares (247 acres), and contain 23,430 graves. Before World War II, the city's Jewish population was significant and at various times in history it constituted between 40 and 60 percent of the general population. Follow the boundary wall to find the ruined stone synagogue, now overgrown with trees and vines, which have woven into the Star of David aperture. • One of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in the country. Unfortunately not well preserved. Now looks sad and empty, as they cut all the trees, but still worth visiting. Also the area around the cemetery is curious even for someone who is local.
  • Extraordinary experience. Lots of abandoned graves ruined by time and carelessness. Got lucky to meet a local jew who gave us a bit of a tour around the places. Definitely one of the most interesting places in Chisinau.
  • Impressive place with lots of historical importness. Would seriously advice you to visit this cemetery when you have the opportunity and think your thoughts over. Hope also this place will restored/better maintained in the future also.
  • A quiet place with silent neighbors...
  • Unfortunately. Government doesn't care about these historical objects!
