The 1956 Monaco Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held on 13 May 1956 at Monaco. It was race 2 of 8 in the 1956 World Championship of Drivers.

The Owen's BRM made their first appearance but after qualifying both cars were withdrawn due to engine valve problems. The other two non-starters were the too-slow Scarlatti and Chiron due to his engine blowing up in practice.

Moss, starting from the middle of the front row, took the lead at Gasworks on the first lap and led every lap. Fangio was not having a good day. He hit the straw bales on lap 2, causing Schell and Musso to retire when trying to avoid him, and on lap 32 he hit the harbour wall, bending a rear wheel. He turned the car over to Castellotti after the pit stop to fix the wheel. On lap 54 while second, Collins came in the pit and turned his car over to Fangio. He resumed in third and passed Behra for second on lap 70, but he was 47 seconds behind Moss. On lap 86 Perdisa's brakes locked when being lapped by Moss, the resulting contact caused Moss's bonnet to lift allowing Fangio to close the gap by two seconds each lap but Moss won with a 6-second cushion.

  • I visited while the track was being setup and had the pleasure of watching the stands and adverts put up. Monaco is an absolute nightmare on a normal day, you can completely forget about doing anything outside of F1 during the two weeks leading up to the race. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful place but the Grand Prix makes it impossible to appreciate.
  • My husband and I traveled to Nice for our honeymoon and happened to be the same weekend as the F1 Grand Prix. A quick 30 mins train ride and voila we’re at Monte Carlo. We bit the bullet and paid for tickets at Stand K and let me tell you, this race is an experience of a lifetime. The seats at K specifically overlooking the marina and all the mega boats were docking there for the race. Despite it being a rainy day and race was pushed back nearly an hour since the track was too wet, we had so much fun. Foods and beer were reasonable inside (€4 baguette with fillings, €7 beer). Much cheaper than hand day in the US. The variety was limited inside so we decided to hop out quickly to the market right at the entrance to get into the race stands, and got a fabulous pizza and more beer. Overall, so worth the price and beatific tracks.
  • Amazing. Just amazing. Best street circuit on the F1 calendar. Busy and crowded in areas but all part of the experience.
  • A beautiful place worth to be seen. The harbour area is full of luxurious yachts and surronded by a gorgeous landacape and nature.
  • What an privilege to walk some of the Grand Prix track. Recommended if you can get here.
