Museum Mohamed VI of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rabat

Museum was pretty good I like the outside statues better than I like the inside art. There were a few notable pieces there but mostly local work but not bad quality. I don't know how much it costs to get into the museum because my admission was free but I did enjoy the sculptures which I will post a few picture of. The museum was worth a 45-minute visit.

This was a very nice museum. They only have one floor with exhibits (it's upstairs after you walk in) but what they had was very nice. As of February 2023 the entry fee is 20 dirhams.

A must-visit for art lovers living in or visiting Morocco. COVID prevention protocals were strictly followed (a rarity in our observations in Morocco) including vaccine pass required for entry, temperature checks, and enforced mask-wearing. Multi-lingual staff made us feel very welcome and deepened our engagement with the works of art on display. Omar who greeted us at the welcome desk was especially helpful in preparing us for what we'd see in the temporary exhibitions, and helped us learn more about the permanent collection. On the occasion of our visit in January 2022 there were three exhibitions on display, all quite different from each other, but with many being photography-based (which we loved) from the collaborator artists Gérard Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault; Henri Cartier-Bresson; and an assortment of African-based artists. The permanent collection of modern and contemporary Moroccan artists' work was in the process of being reinstalled, however the staff invited us to look through several beautifully-produced books featuring the collection so we'd have a better understanding of what to look forward to on a future visit. Interesting permanent exhibitions in particular. We were here for about an hour and a half enjoying the paintings in particular — allow a bit more time if you speak the local languages.

I love this museum. The permanent collection is a real “best of” Moroccan Modern art, and the temp exhibitions always super interesting. A must-visit.
