Sherpa Museum, Namche Bazaar

November 2022 was the first time I visited the Museum even though I had been in the region a couple of times before. The level of documentation curator Lhakpa Sonam Sherpa has done over the years of the culture, and landscape of the region is commendable. A visit to the museum helped me understand the history and culture even more through his photography and the display of Sherpa artifacts. The museum also showcases in-depth the history of mountaineering in the Everest region. Without a doubt, a must-visit place for everyone who is coming to the Everest region.

Excellent museum, fantastic photographs documenting sherpa culture and mountaineering history in the Solukhumbu. Plus speaking with Sonam (the curator) is really wonderful, he is such an interesting and captivating person :-)

One of the best experiences on my trip. Incredible museum and incredible collection by the owner. We were lucky enough to have a tour from Sonam himself.

Even though it’s a small museum with 3 rooms of exhibits (mainly photographs and articles) and a 15 min slide show, I would still recommend it. We got a good glimpse of the Sherpa culture and life in the 1950s, the development of Namche Bazaar and the history of Everest expedition and the sherpas hall of fame.
