One of the many small, dormant volcanic cones that lie through the city, One Tree Hill (Maungakiekie) features an urban park with giant trees, wide avenues, plenty of trails to explore, and a viewing platform on the top of the hill. Visit the astronomical observatory or wander around looking at the sheep and cattle. Walk up to the top to see the grave of Sir John Logan Campbell, marked by an obelisk facing a bronze statue of a Māori warrior. At the information center learn about the geologic and human history of the hill through interactive exhibits, and pick up maps for the volcanic and archeological trails. No camping is allowed on site, but you can bring along a snack and choose a picnic spot or use one of the many free barbecue sets. • We were “killing time” before heading to the airport. A bit of a hike from the parking to the crest. Would not put it at the top of things to see, but nice views.

  • Taken by coach trip rather than Mount Eden as passengers would not walk to top due to maintenance... gave us an extra sight to see that we wouldn't have otherwise...

  • This is one of my favourites places on earth. The way you can get to the summit of the mountain walking or by car is very convenient and the views that you see are stunning. It gives a lot of great photo opportunities as well as a lot of places to have a nice picnic. A lot of sheeps and cows can be spotted in the lower part of the peak. This is a great way to visit Auckland!
  • Its a great place to visit for walk or sightseeing. You can see most part of the Auckland city from here. Very beautiful place. Saw sheeps, cows and some other birds
  • One of favorites parks, forever changing scenery 💙 ❤️ ♥️ never disappoints
  • Such a wonderful place to have a relaxed walk or jog. Amazing views, well maintained and sufficient parking. Could be a bit crowded on weekends.
  • Went here today... From the hill you could see a 360 degree view of Auckland!
