Create an itinerary including McLaren Falls Park
Ideal for walkers, McLaren Falls Park contains great spots for fishing, kayaking, barbecues, picnics, and camping. Just a ten-minute drive from the center of Tauranga, these 190 hectares (469 acres) of parkland stretch out beside Lake McLaren. Look for the extensive botanical collection of trees, and hike the short, easy trail to the waterfalls. Free gas barbecues are dotted around the park for the public to use. Note that the falls are home to glowworms--though they can only be spotted after dusk. Put McLaren Falls Park on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Tauranga travel planning app.

  • Some of natures best is on offering here. The camp grounds are still closed, but we were really just after a walk around, and this place was perfect. We went on the Waterfall Track, and the bush gets very thick and dense, you really get that whiff of fresh forest air, it’s so refreshing. The walking track itself is also very easy, 20 min loop, we did it with small toddler, very walkable. There is a car park at the entrance and also public toilets. Very cool walk, lots to see and honestly some of the best native trees I’ve seen.
  • I love the waterfalls but my family enjoyed the walk and the scenes much more.. The area is well shaded with trees so you could go for a walk there at any time during the day just get your insect repellent spray in hand. There are nice areas for picnic and grills for BBQ. Toilets are available and clean except the ones that are very close to the waterfalls were very dirty with sh*** in the basin!!! I forgot to mention that the walk tra k is suitable for families with baby pram until you reach the falls, there are steep stairs and it is difficult to continue the road with the pram
  • I love this place for its beauty, peace (on a week day) and space. Have done some of the many walks, both easy and more challenging (for an old, unfit me) and loved the one to the Waterfall. Have had picnics, fed ducks, sat and daydreamed, walked, eaten and enjoyed every one of them
  • A wonderful park with great walks and beautiful views and well maintained tracks and seating. Loved every track and ample pparking and toilets. Take own food. We wanted to support the cafe in the park but their kitchen was closed 2.30 on 2 Jam when patrons were eberywhere eager to get a feed.
  • What a gorgeous park! Wish I had known about it when I first got to Tauranga. Visited today on my way out of town. So peaceful and beautiful, even in the winter. Friendly Park Ranger too. You can camp there but it's all done online.
