Footprints Waipoua, Waipoua Forest

Billy was an amazing guide that gave us a magical experience. Waipoua forest is breathtaking and the kauri trees are truly impressive. If you're in the area definitely join this tour.

This is the real deal. The Kauri trees are beyond amazing; they are mind bogglingly beautiful and bigger than imaginable . But even more importantly, Billy Boy and Amelia are brilliant tour guides who are able to share their love of their Maori culture with their guests. This is so not a cheap tourist attraction. it is literally awe-inspiring.

This tour is so good! You get three hours with a delightful, knowledgable, engaging guide, who introduces you to the forest, the different plants and their uses and importance to the Māori people, current threats to the indigenous forest and measures being taken to protect the forest from those threats. Then there are stories and legends, there is music, there is laughter and jokes, and then... there are the two magnificent giants, Tane Mahuta (The Guardian of the Forest) and Te Matua Ngahere (The Father of the Forest). I've never seen anything like them (and I grew up near the giant Sequoias in California!) The guides the night I went were Amirea (I know I spelled that wrong!) and the inimitable Billy Boy. I will remember them fondly and forever. Also, Amirea gave me great recommendations for other things to do in the area. Thanks!
