Cable Car Museum, Wellington

Free exhibit that has an old cable car to view and touch. Goes over the history of the cable car a little. Some unique souvenirs in the gift shop adjacent. As a tourist it was interesting to learn about the history. After the cable car ride up, I was able to visit the museum, take in the surrounding view, and then take the next car down with my return ticket. Overall a very economical stop to make.

Nice little museum and gift shop. Explained why and how the Trolley/Funicular were built, how Wellington is home to the most private trolleys in the world and other interesting facts. When we visited (04NOV22) tickets were NZ$5 one way or NZ$9 round trip. Once you reach the top, the walk down is listed as 35 min. Some areas are steep or have uneven stairs so if you have difficulty walking you may consider a round trip ticket.

Free entry. Oodles of Wellington history here, and if you're like me and like to read everything, you're in for a treat! Both static and interactive displays. Great views of Wellington CBD and harbor here also. A nice wee gimmick was the penny press; for a small fee mint your own! Set aside an hour maximum for viewing. Also while you're here be sure to take a ride down the hill on the Wellington Cable Car or just take a leisurely stroll through the Botanical Gardens if that's more your thing. Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the museum, highly recommended 👌

A great FREE attraction located at the top of the Wellington Cable Car. Ideal jump off point for the FREE Amazing Botanical Gardens. This is a great (very interesting) place to visit whilst you're in Wellington NZ. Even the merch is reasonably priced Did! Did I mention entrance is FREE?🤣😉👍 HOT TIP🔥 Beat the queue for the cable car. Take the Number 2 bus from the same location as where people are queueing to go up on the Cable Car. Go a couple of stops for around $1 get off at Founder's Gate, this way you get to walk through the fabulous Botanical Gardens to the Cable Car Station where there's no queue & ride down for around $6 😉👍

Sweet little museum with good information on all of Wellington Wheelchair and stroller accessible also lovely walk paths into the botanical gardens. Parking is very difficult. Near impossible sadly.
