Create an itinerary including Mombacho
Hike to the gaping crater of Mombacho, a dormant volcano offering spectacular views over Lake Nicaragua and Granada. Two trails navigate their way to the summit, one far more challenging the other, with almost constant 45 degree ascents and descents. You can only take this more difficult trail with a guide, but you'll be rewarded for your efforts with views of the dwarf forest. You should, however, consider taking a guide regardless of which trail you choose, as you'll learn more about the geology and wildlife of the reserve. Be sure to stop in the cafe on the volcano and sample the local coffee, and bring sturdy boots and plenty of water for the journey. • We really enjoyed walking around this dormant volcano. The views of the valley below are just astonishing! The weather is much cooler up there, and we even saw some spider monkeys!

  • As usual prices from the internet are different from reality once on the spot. So in August 2022 prices for foreigners are 5$ for entrance + 2$ for the maintenance of the tracks. That's only if you want to do the easy track, you have two other options where you'll have to pay a compulsory guide. Then you have yo pay an additional 20$ to go up and down. However on their website it was clearly said that the shuttle was 2$ one way (which feels more like a normal price considering it's a 20 mins ride) So...you'll have to pay $27 for a hike that lasts one hour. Not worth it considering it's not the best view around. Locals pay less for the transportation, which is stupid, because it's only transportation and it shouldn't be more expensive for us. I understand for entrance and other fees that locals pay less but here. Any way we just didn't go. Keep going like this and you'll have nobody on your volcano 👍
  • Great Volcano, a must for visitors in Nicaragua! It is amazing for walking, getting fresh air and exploring the nature.
  • Very nice place to go. The weather is magnigicient (24°C) you can feel the pure air and also the sulfur in some areas because the volcano it is still active. If you are in good shape you could visit The Puma way. It is a 4 km tour but if you are not in shape, don't go that way, take the regular way which is a 1 km tour.
