Museo de la Revolucion, Leon

One of the weirdest 'museum' visits ever. I honestly feel a bit bad giving this review, but we need to be objective here. The tour started with a rooftop walk across broken/rusted iron sheets. We were assured it was perfectly safe, but I don't think any of us felt safe. The purpose of the rooftop walk was unclear to me. Our guide pointed out the different larger buildings across the city (nothing about the revolution). I feel a bit bad for the guide since she clearly wasn't in her comfort zone and a bit nervous. She was also not an ex-revolutionary herself (I guess she was the only English speaking guide available). The explanation given was not much more than reading what was on the photos and newspaper articles on the walls. Detailed questions remained largely unanswered. Only real positive is that the upstairs building is inviting for photographers. Again I feel a bit sorry for writing this, I'm sure with a better guide the experience can be improved. I hope it's taken as constructive feedback and used to insert a bit more 'professionalism' in what is clearly an interesting part of the county's history.

Great way to delve into the fascinating history of Nicaragua, brought to life by guide. Building has not been renovated since the 1979 revolution, adding to the sense of pathos. Good views over Leon from top floor.

Had a brilliant time here. The entrance is c$100 and included is a guide. I had Marcel who was originally part of the revolution. Have me lots of information and lastly took me to the roof and terraces which overlooked the city with further info. Donated at his request another c$150 for the restoration of the museum. The other parts are quite dilapidated so happy to contribute.

Great museum and a must visit if you want to know more about Nicaraguan history. The guide gave us a tour in Spanish and did everything to make us understand most of it. Also, he’s a real Sandinista! 😊👌🏼

Overview of Nicaraguan history via old and often damaged photos. Was fortunate to be with friend fluent in Spanish to translate. The host guide spoke little English, but the plus side was that he had participated in recent revolution and experienced the tortures you hear about.
