Museum of Legends and Traditions (Museo de Tradiciones y Leyendas), Leon

Me and my friend absolutely loved this museum, and what can say, what an experience. An unexpected gem that really brightened our day. There is so much to learn about all the quirky myths and legends of the area and the models and figurines are brilliant (somewhat a little scary haha). It's set in an old prison and you get to walk around the high perimeter like the guards once did. Wilbur who runs the museum is brilliant, friendly and so helpful. What a great and funny day out for such a small price of 50 Cordobas. Would happily return. See it for yourself and enjoy!

To say this museum changed our lives is an understatement. It was great from start to finish. The owner (Wilbur) is passionate, kind and welcoming - he was there to answer any questions and help throughout our entire experience, all of which came with a lovely smile. Each part of the museum is different, captivating and taught us an interesting part of Nicaragua’s culture. We smiled the whole time and for the rest of the day following this experience. Very cool and unique museum in the heart of Leon. We were the only ones there when we went and we got a booklet in English to explain everything which was nice. Lots of English explanations by the art as well to fully understand the cool legends of Leon. Highly recommend, it was one of my fav things to do in the city! Cheap entrance fee

Great experience! Good place to learn about Nicaragua's history and have a taste of the traditions and culture. I recommend to ask for a tour guide, it's more interesting. For those who knows what Gigantona is, here you can find the biggest one in Nic.

Knowledgeable guide and interesting exhibits in the former prison turned local musem of history and legends. The displays are quite dusty amateutish and are in varying stages of disrepair. The catwalk around the prison feels great. Apart from seeing the surrounding areas and the museum, you can also see the dirty laundy (litetally) of the neighboring residents.
