Create an itinerary including Isla Ometepe
Formed by two volcanoes, Isla Ometepe is the largest island on the vast Lake Nicaragua. With a name meaning “two mountains” in Nahuatl, the remote island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, rich in culture, wildlife, and history. Considered a sacred land by the indigenous nations, the island offers visitors numerous archaeological sites, artifacts, and petroglyphs to admire. Explore the island’s isolated, scenic trails, and spot numerous plant and animal species, or lounge on one of the many picturesque lakeside beaches. You can try fishing, horseback riding, cycling, or even climbing the volcanoes, but note that you need a guide for the strenuous trek. One of the volcanoes is still active. Isla Ometepe is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , world travel planner Edition.
