  • Anyone who sees the Monument to the Soviet Warrior - a piece of history hidden in a small, quiet residential area - cannot imagine that the city was bombed 321 times before Soviet-Russian Red Army soldiers arrived and helped Kirkenes to be freed of the German occupation during WWII. The Monument to the Soviet Warrior, was erected by the Norwegians as a token of gratitude to the USSR Red Army for the liberation of this area of Norway during Operation Petsamo-Kirkenes in October 1944, and is located in the Haganes area of Kirkenes. The inscription on the Monument's pedestal, written in Russian and Norwegian, says: "To the brave Soviet soldiers in memory of the liberation of the city of Kirkenes in 1944." Nearly 27 million Soviets soldiers sacrificed their lives to fight Nazism. It's an important fact that makes us think. A must visit!
  • A piece of history to honour the red army of Soviet Union who liberated Kirkenes from Nazi Germany in 1944. The city was bombed 322 times before the soviet army came in and helped Kirkenes to be liberated. The monument is in the heart of the city and can be easily accessed by walking from the city centre
  • Important harbor during world war two, great history hides in this small town.
  • A Great little piece of history located over bomb shelter bunkers. This is an easy walk from the shipping terminals, no necessary to take any type of tour unless you're interested in more history from the tour guide.
  • Not well known story, thank you brave russian troops, friends hopefully forevermore 🙏💞
