Create an itinerary including Museum of the Frankincense Land
Stroll through Museum of the Frankincense Land, a museum that documents the once illustrious maritime strength of the nation, and in particular the sea port of Zafar, which was supported by the spice trade. The well-organized display, featuring adequately labelled exhibitions, describes the downfall of the port. Kilometers of landscaped paths along the coast feature reed beds and frolicking geese, along with an archaeological site featuring ruins of the port's past. Children under the age of six cannot enter the museum halls. Plan my trip to Salalah with suggested itineraries provided by Klarna Trips.

  • Frankincense helped to fuel the rise of the Oman Empire, which stretched from the Arabian Sea all along the east coast of Africa. Highly recommended.

  • This museum showcases the rich culture and civilization of Oman. However if you are a fact finder or a guy who is keen to know about the Omani history, then it's not to miss art gallery for you. Moreover you will also get amazed by the transformation that the country had went through in the last four decades. This is a must visit spot for tourists who are coming in
  • The Maritime museum is a great visit, I loved the model boats from the different eras of naval history. It really sparks your imagination and curiosity. The history museum as well is absolutely fascinating with artefacts from all kinds of places bringing the past back to life in a very visual way. It really needs at least an hour. A walk around the Al Baleed ruins in nice weather is also great and the partially reconstructed castle is worth the walk. I’m hoping that much more will be reconstructed so the whole city is transformed into an inspiring walk-in museum.
  • Very nice small museum. One room details the maritime history of Oman, and the other room shows displays from prehistory through the present. It is located in an area that has been inhabited for centuries. Definitely worth a visit.
  • I found it interesting. I never knew that Oman is known as Frankencense land (земля ладана). It was fascinating to sea the Iron Age figures. Meteorite hall was totally unexpected.
  • Worth visiting! Very well maintained and preserved relics with a lot of knowledge about Oman, its cities, ports, naval history and tribes that used to live here centuries ago.
