Create an itinerary including Choquequirao Archeological Park
Visit the Incan site of Choquequirao Archeological Park, a terraced structure similar in architecture to the famed Machu Picchu. Hike through peaceful valleys filled with large agave plants and interesting wildlife, learn about the Incan culture and history, and observe the artworks left over by a long-gone civilization. The Incan settlement can only be reached by a 2-4 day trek from Cusco, but you can choose to hike here on your own or on an organized tour with a guide, mules, and a chef. • We weren't prepared for how stunning the views were. Machu Picchu has been seen by everyone so when you first see it, it looks like every postcard. I highly recommend this because we didn't fully...

  • A very tough hike but worth all the effort. I did it on a 4 day adventure but it could be done faster.
  • Amazing place, I only wish their will have signs and maps around the ruins.
  • This easily goes into top 5 of best sights in my life. The trek is fairly difficult because of steepness but final result is just breathtaking. No photos or videos can show the scale of surroundings, you need to see it yourself. Magical place. Leave a full day to explore, it's huge.
  • Doing the hike in 2 days was definitely a challenge but very rewarding. I was beyond exhausted afterwards. No need to bring equipment though, there are camp sites every few kilometers. Personally I think 4 days is too much for this hike.
  • The trek is definitely tough, but worth the effort! It’s only 42km, but takes 4 days, 3 nights to reach the ruins and return - day 1 is a downhill hike, although one you finally reach the river at the bottom of the valley I recommend tackling the brutal uphill on the other side to avoid camping at the sand fly infested river campsite. Once you’ve trekked about an hour uphill don’t give up and stop at the first campsite - I suggest persevering for 10 more minutes uphill to a far nicer one! Day 2 is an uphill slog to reach the ruins which are set in stunning surroundings. We didn’t do it, but I have since heard the llama wall is worth the effort, no matter how tired you are... Day 3 and 4 are basically back the way you came, so a very steep downhill and a tough uphill to leave the park. Some people do this trek with mules, which can be annoying when you have to move out of their way, but trekking with all your stuff gives a far greater sense of achievement!
