Create an itinerary including Westerplatte
Once home to a spa complex and baths, Westerplatte was also home to a Polish military transit depot. Today the ruins of a World War II battle fought over this depot serves as a museum, and a totem-like monument stands tall on the peninsula. Carvings on the side pay homage to the Polish soldiers who died defending the piece of land. In fact, the peninsula is filled with memorials: some gravestones, some ruins of barracks. Each monument can be reached on foot or by water taxi along the coast. Using our international travel planner, Gdansk attractions like Westerplatte can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • This is a very important place. While in Gdańsk you should definitely go there. Visiting Westerplatte won’t take you long.

  • If you’re into history this monument is worth a visit - even if you’re not you really should go. Boats go from the waterside in Gdańsk very regularly but buses also stop here and obviously are a lot.....  more

  • A historic monument in remembrance of WW2. Great place to visit. After the climb to the top of the memorial, there is a beautiful panoramic view. Bunkers, information tables, huge monument and sea nearby.
  • A very important place for history. The facility is under modernization. Additional places will be available to visit in some time. Well-described facilities. There may be no clear indication of which way to go at road intersections.
  • Beautiful memorial to the starting place of World War II.Many historical buildings and memorials. After the climb to the top of memorial there is a beautiful panoramamic view. Walking down you can walk to another beautiful view of the Baltic Sea and coast. Free and stunning views worth the trip.
  • A beautiful monument to the starting location of the WW2. Many interesting locations around the monument, and several informative plaques of the history of the area. If you are interested in the history of WW2, ots a must visit. Easy to access via Gdansk by boat.
  • A very well setup of a historical place. Being in a place where the museum-part is the place where the event actually happend gives the experience a extra dimension. Well setup displayes and good info about the events that took place the 1. of September in 1939. We took the ferry from Gdansk.
