The city's historical central plaza, Stary Rynek is home to an array of colorful and interesting buildings. Established in the 11th century, it has undergone numerous transformations, including severe damage during World War II. Its reconstruction was rapid and successful, and today the large square boasts a number of fashionable bars, cafes, restaurants, and stores. Some of its most striking buildings include the Renaissance-style old town hall, weighing house, arsenal gallery, guardhouse, and the row of 16th century merchants' houses. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a Polish beer and plateful of pierogi (Polish dumplings) on one of the bustling terraces. Arrange your visit to Stary Rynek and discover more family-friendly attractions in Poznan using our Poznan trip itinerary planning website.

The whole square was dug up! Sadly we did not get to see it at its best. Renovations are being done everywhere with completion around August 2023.

Alas, it's a sorry state of affairs just now. What should be the picture postcard brochure photo is now a building site with major construction of underground pipes. It's not really the place you want to sit out and eat amongst pipes, lorries, diggers and rubble. No sir, find somewhere else.Having just come from Krakow and Wroclaw Old Town Squares, which are beautiful, this is a big disappointment. The restaurant owners bordering the square must be feeling the impact on their trade.

The coloured merchants' houses on all four sides are already stunning. Then add the majestic Town Hall and two rows of gorgeous buildings in the middle part. Of course merchants no longer live in the merchants' houses - the square is teeming with restaurants & bars. Watch out that the reconstruction work in the Old Town is still going on (August 2022) and the constant traipsing through improvised gravelly walkways takes the shine off a tiny bit.
-
The most beautiful historical city center in Poland! The town hall is impressive surrounded by colorful building around it. Also you can find several Fontaines with Greek statues, which is very nice at photos
-
Such an amazing and well fixed up town square. Colorful ornate buildings with four Greek themed fountains in each corner, and a beautiful town hall in the center. The only downside are a couple terribly ugly modern buildings in the center. They really throw off the vibes.

UNDER RENOVATION!!! If you planned to visit the Poznan for this great square. Don’t!! It is heavily underconstruction. Not sure when it will be finished. This make the city can’t be enjoyed 100%
