Madeira Story Centre, Funchal

Interesting museum to get a quick understanding about the history of the island, his discovery and settlement. Explanatory signage is concise and easy to read, while the rest is left to visual reconstructions of events and life settings. Unfortunately many of the interactive items that could make the experience more engaging are out of service. They seems like in disrepair. Nice view from the terrace at the third floor over the museum.

Very interesting view into the history of the island, we learned a lot! Some of the interactive exhibits were not working, but there was a lot to read and take in. Well worth the 5€ it cost. Great views from the restaurant on the top floor, did not eat but had some madeira wine.

This review is of the terrace restaurant and bar on the 3rd floor of Madeira Story Centre. If you are seeking an oasis of calm from the queue for the cable car in Funchal, this venue is a good candidate. Madeira Story Centre is adjacent the lower cable car station. It comprises souvenir, museum and restaurant levels. Restaurant staff are welcoming and attentive. Food prices are reasonable plus the view of the cable car and sea is welcome. We only tried two dishes, seafood soup plus the avocado and prawn salad. They were perfectly adequate but not particularly special. Drinks charges are realistic. We enjoyed their sangria and tried a vertical tasting of three aged Madeira wines. In balance this venue is well worth a visit, particularly if you seek somewhere tranquil to watch the goings on at the lower cable car station. Recommended.

Very nice view, the food is delicious and the staff is friendly 🥰

This is a hidden gem, it is a fantastic space which seemed underused. We were the only people there. Service was friendly. On a sunny day it would be even better. We didn't visit the museum.
