Now an elaborate and decorative waterfront square, Praca do Comercio (Terreiro do Paco) was once home to the royal palace. Before the Great Earthquake of 1755, the royal family lived here. Today, the square acts as a port of entry to Lisbon. Meet with friends or begin your tour of the city at this central square, which houses the main tourism office on its west side. The square features a statue of King Jose I, a triumphal arch, and the Lisboa Story Center--an interactive museum. Explore the square and consider stopping in nearby restaurants and cafes, such as the famous 18th century Café Martinho da Arcada. • Just a great place to be. I imagine it gets crowded in the summer months. Could have been improved with a bit more street theatres

  • This was a nice open area with views of the sea. Restaurants surround the square and are open all day. Tram and bus stops are nearby. It's a great spot to sit and relax after walking around the city!

  • Spacious, nicely built square in the heart of Lisbon, surrounded by spectacular buildings and monuments. It offers a beautiful, wide-angle view of the Tagus River. It is worth watching during the day and in the evening. It is easily accessible from St. Jerome’s Monastery by tram nr. 15.
  • Nice place to visit. It was home to Lisbon’s Royal Palace until the earthquake brought it to the ground on 1755. The palace now stands elsewhere, and this historical palace has been restored with ornate arches. You can enjoy an amazing view of the River Tagus standing from that spot.
  • One of the best places in Lisbon. Absolutely gorgeous. It's wide and open, so you can take a breath from the narrow streets, has a view to the sea and has a few restaurants to have a lunch.
  • Nice place to visit. Lots of beautiful views and shopping areas. Lots of history. Ocean view is also very good. City view is cool. Nice colourful buildings and architecture.
  • A central landmark with some restaurants surrounding it. However the best spot to be isn’t the plaza itself but anywhere along the sea front. A great place to hang out especially during the evening.
