  • Although built in the 13th century, what can be visited now is a more recent construction after the violent earthquake of 1755. Admission is free and inside the gold-covered Baroque-style altar...

  • The second largest church in this small town is nicely displayed in a somewhat open square. There is a plaque in front of it. Not open at noontime when we visited.

  • Built in the mid-13th or 14th century, it was a gothic basilica with three naves that stood out for being the seat of the collegiate church of Saint Peter. Regrettably, it collapsed in the 1755 earthquake. Of the original building, only the main altar and the bell tower remain. The reconstruction after the earthquake was simple. It has an altarpiece depicting São Pedro by the painter João da Costa. The current parish priest ordered that frames be placed on the altars and decorated with beautiful cloths during Lent and Easter time. Here are buried the priest Rafael Silveira Malhao, brother of the well-known character who inspired the traditional song “o malao, malao”, and the esteemed artist and feminist Josepha de Óbidos.
  • Church with a very beautiful exterior architecture. The interior does not present an architecture of such noble materials, because due to the earthquake of 1755 it had to be rebuilt. It featured a simple nativity scene, but well structured and assembled.
  • If you are at the castle complex and if you are interested in churches, you will find a relatively small church with relatively sober walls, which I found very pleasant.
  • Visiting Obidos, I noticed this church. Inside you can see a beautiful altarpiece and beautiful side altars.
  • The first church I saw on my trip to Portugal. There was a ritual inside, while we were afraid to enter, our guide said, "Enter, enter, no problem." The church was built at the end of the 16th century. Between the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, it was decorated with baroque motifs such as the chancellor.
