Bustling with butchers, craft shops, fruit stands, and more, Mercado do Bolhao serves as one of the city's most historically important and active commercial centers. Stop by the covered market, housed in a Neoclassical building from 1914, and wend your way through its two floors of stalls and vendors. You'll find a wide array of fish, agricultural products, and souvenirs for sale--all staples of the city and the region. Listen for the cries of the different vendors as you move through the center, as each one traditionally has his own distinct yell designed to bring in customers and ward off competitors. If you're in the mood for a bite, stop by one of the local cafes, or grab some traditional Portuguese fried tripe from a butcher shop. Using our custom trip planner, Porto attractions like Mercado do Bolhao can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • Wander through all of the stalls to see tastes of Porto. There is something for everyone along with a restaurant that you can dine at.

  • For a fun informal lunch, do consider coming here. You can pick up cheeses, meats, tapas, fruit and all sorts of local delicacies and fresh foods, all available to be eaten here, or taken home to enjoy later. This also includes a nice wine, beer, port or freshly made juice. Grab some food, wander the stalls and pick up few bargains. P.s. Did I mention it is the cleanest markets I’ve ever been to? High recommend for any visitor to Porto!
  • Lovely market in a convenient location in the middle of Porto. It's mainly food products like meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, baked goods, fruit, sweets and some souvenirs. It's aimed at tourists but there is nothing wrong with that and there are many locals who shop there as well. All the products are top quality and very nicely arranged. The prices are similar to what you will find elsewhere in Porto. The sellers are very friendly and most of them speak English so it's easier to shop. The market has gone through extensive renovations and it looks beautiful. This is a great place to shop and to come and sample some of the great food that this city has to offer.
  • Large selection of vendors from everything from fresh fruits, flowers, vegetables, meats and seafood to baked goods, crockery and condiments. A nice place to browse and get some produce. The mushroom stand in particular was a highlight and had a great selection!
  • This is definitely worth visiting. They have several stalls with fresh produce, and typical food from Portugal. You can find a bit everything: the typical delicious canned food (e.g. sardines, seafood), dried and crystallized fruits, an amazing selection of mushrooms, a good assortment of olives, cheeses from different regions in Portugal, fresh fruits (some very good options to eat on the go), flowers… It is a great place to go to buy great souvenirs from Portugal, it is a bit pricier than in other places in the city, but if you are short in time, then this is a good place where you can find a bit of everything
  • Newly re-opened after a full refurbishment. Great place for local produce plus can taste local wines (at a reasonable price). Friendly vendors. Many different snacks available although limited seating available. certainly worth visiting.
