Reserva Natural Cabezas de San Juan showcases seven different ecosystems--a bay, a rainforest, a dry forest, beaches, lagoons, coral reefs, and mangroves. The reserve features rare flora and is home to big iguanas, fiddler crabs, and all kinds of exotic birds. Take a walking tour of trails and boardwalks that lead through the park with bilingual guides. To get through the dry forest section, you'll need to board a tram. The reserve also offers bike and birding tours, as well as a night kayak tour, which provides a spectacle of green-glowing bioluminescent microorganisms. Visit the information center inside Puerto Rico's oldest lighthouse that's topped by a Spanish colonial tower. Climb to the observation deck for the views of the peninsula's steep, craggy cliffs. A visit to Reserva Natural Cabezas de San Juan represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Fajardo road trip tool to plot your vacation.

Wonderful place to do a hike and chill. So, when I went, the gate was closed and they wouldn't let anyone in. You have to park in one of the streets next to the restaurants on the way(Costa Mia, etc) and opposite the first beach spot on the way and then walk along the beach. As you walk, you will see a paved road in parallel(Basically getting around the entrance which is fine as we saw workers and several people walk by and not care) Get on that and follow the path on Google maps to hike all the way up to the edge. It's about a 40 min hike. Follow the signs on the road. We snorkeled for a bit in the ocean before the hike but found nothing interesting.

It's truly beautiful but basically if you want to enter the park, you can only do so on a tour which is a total pain and needs booking in advance. Instead, we walked along the coastline and got to experience the stunning beaches without any reservations and for free! Found the most stunning, giant conch shells, fish and white sands, hidden coves and sunbathing spots. Only saw 2 people in 4 hours, and it was entirely rubbish free. Hard to find a decent spot to swim though, ocean ground is rocky and covered in slippery creepy seaweed.

The tour was amazing, I learned so much. It was super affordable (especially for a 2 hour tour) and super accessible as the tour is mainly in/transported by a tram(?). The guide was knowledgeable and super receptive to questions. He said that the park can be accessed without the tour but if you do the tour you get to park within the property and I did the trails after the tour knowing what to expect! The lighthouse is under construction from hurricane damage but the guide was excited about the reimagining of it upon reopen, I would definitely recommend! I booked the tour on their website.

Great and awesome tour and experience. Francisco is a great tour guide. You'll enjoy it a lot if you have the chance to have him assigned. Everyone should come here. Call and make your reservation today.

A beautiful and wild place to see. Book your tour online ahead of time. If you are an English only speaker, know that there is usually only one tour a day in English, so plan in advance. The tour is about 2.5 hours long, most of which you are riding a tram. Sit near the front so you can hear the tour guide better. You walk through a mangrove area around a lake, then stop at a beautiful rocky beach, and finally stop at the lighthouse. The views from the top are amazing! You can see many of the nearby islands (Icacos, Palomino), and on a clear days see as far as the Virgin Islands! Bring a bottle of water and sun protection. If you have a camera with a good long range lens, I imagine you could get some amazing photos from near the lighthouse.
