Casa Canales, Jayuya

This was a nice surprise since I went to see the Cemí and the house and museum are in the same park. The house is surrounded by beautiful grounds and mountains on the background. It’s a small museum full of history. The lady that welcomed us gave us a brief history of Nemesio and his family. It wasn’t crowed so we had time to enjoy every detail of the house and it’s history. Getting to the park from the south of the island was a plus since the views from the mountains are incredible specially of Dos Lagos in the town of Villalba. ALL FOR A $1!

If you are in Puerto Rico and have time to spare, visit this small yet beautiful museum. It is full of historical information and it shows 1900s house architecture. Don't forget to visit the indigenous museum next to it. Jayuya is a beautiful town!

Went on a weekday, we went in and saw the beautiful monuments, would have loved for someone to tell me about the house and its history, ended up googling it, other than that its a very beautiful and historic place to visit if you really wanna know about Puerto Rico’s history. Unfortunately not open due to the municipal Christmas Break (12/18-1/11/2021). The grounds are open to look around but not the museum. Definitely plan to come back when the museum is actually open.

Beautiful place. A must when visiting Jayuya!
