Stavropoleos Monastery has been compared to a jewelry box because of its small size, rich exterior, and interior choral style decoration. Observe the ornate stone and wood carvings, particularly on the church's main doors, as well as the restored 18th-century ceiling and wall paintings. As one of the city's oldest churches, the house of worship is also known for its collection of Byzantine music books, ancient texts, and sacred objects. It's the only surviving part of the original women's monastery built in 1724. Notice the collection of tombstones scattered around the courtyard surrounded by a richly ornamented colonnade with oriental arches. With our world travel planner, Bucharest attractions like Stavropoleos Monastery can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

It's a beautiful site to see and take pictures, but there was no entry as I was there during Easter. Not sure if they allow entry inside?

This is must visit church in Old town, Bucharest. though its small in size, its the most beautiful place in town. There are many fabulous painting inside. The architectural details on walls & doors is impressive. Once you go inside it, it feels peaceful.

One of the most interesting places in the Old Town. This church not only has survived to earthquakes but also the systematization planned and carried out by the Romanian Communist Party, it is well preserved and the restoration works were excellent. Undoubtedly, it is worth a visit. Besides, you will enjoy neo-byzantine music performed by the choir inside, so it is a peaceful and relaxing place as well. You can visit the library next to the church with a collection of old icons and ecclesiastical objects as well.

Such a beautiful and precious place to visit. A very peaceful and quiet little church. The paintings on the wall are fabulous. A not to missed place to visit in Bucharest. The amount of details and hardworking on this beautiful ancient monument is very impressive.

At the edge of Old Town. This beautifully maintained and restored church is a must see. The workmanship and care that is invested here is worth seeing. Built around 1724, this monastery wold have been surrounded by a completely different environment, but here it is in the middle of this huge city. Go inside, (men removing hat and women covering heads if possible, out of respect) , and be impressed.

A monastary in the middle of the city. It is kind of hard to miss when paying a bit more attention to the surroundings as it stands out. Bucarest is kind of old but this building is among them even older but nonetheless still pretty. The outside of it is worth to look with their yard and it also shows its history a bit. The inside is also while very old still very pretty as well. I have never been to an orthodox monastery/church before so it was quite different but still nice.
