Legend has it that Le Lac Balea was named after a brave young shepherd who became the king's chief commander before he fell into the lake during a storm. The site features views of the surrounding mountains, and amenities include two chalets, a mountain rescue station, and a small improvised market near the lake where you can buy local food. During winter, you can stay at the first ice hotel ever built in Eastern Europe. To reach the site, take the cable car from Balea waterfall, or navigate a car or a bike up the Transfăgărășan Road.     Had such a wonderful time there. Highly recommend 👌. If you are on this road you should not miss it. There are several hiking routes around,I was lacking out of time unfortunately could make it...

    This is one of the nearest glacier lake that we could see in person. We went there by car from Vidraru lake and no problem passing through the way where we saw some bears. Was a little crowded even....  more

    Absolutely majestic view, a place that I recommend you visit. There are a lot of souvenir shops and enough parking places at the location. The parking costs around 2 euro the hour. The shops offer the buyers the possibility to buy something to eat also.

    Amazing, and very cold :) It's recommend to go around and watch all sides of the pkace. And Please keep it clean.

    Wonderful place. A bit crowded, but you still have the chance to make an amazing photo. Nice view as well to Transfăgărășan road. Recommend it, just don't forget to take a jacket with yourself.

    Great views of mountains peaks and the Transfagarasan switchbacks. Found an amazing mix of snow and alpine flowers. Fast changes between sun and clouds.
