Hike into Stolby National Park to view the giant rock formations, the result of pulsating magma forced up millions of years ago from deep below the earth's surface. The formations of the Eastern Sayan Mountains are called Stolby, Russian for "pillars," and this is what they resemble. Visit the small fortress at the junction of the Kacha and Yenisei Rivers, built by Russian kozaks who discovered the geological wonders in 1624. we went on long walk ... mostly uphill and then up one of the rocks ... we did about 7hrs total there and back to entrance. great nature trail seen quite a few squirrels and birds along the way...
