Create an itinerary including Kandt House Museum
Former residence of German explorer Dr. Richard Kandt, Kandt House Museum today stands as a natural history museum and displays Rwanda's wildlife, vegetation, and the focal point--a live snake exhibit. The first section features taxidermied zebras, antelopes, native birds, and wild animals. In the second section, see minerals and rocks found in the country. The last and most exciting section displays snakes, including the ominous black mamba. Keep in mind that captions come in Kinyarwanda and German; you can, however, opt for an English guided tour. The museum is also known for the great vista of the old city and the three surrounding mountains. • This is a depressing museum in more ways than one. It provides an important reminder of the terrors of colonialism. But it's very minimal and those poor snakes are not in good conditions. And...

  • We had an hour's guide which was very interesting and informative on the early history of Rwanda. The only downside is the reptile exhibit - which is not really anything to do with the museum but...

  • We got a tour of how Kigali came to be, past colonial eras and the justice system in place before they were colonized. The tour guide was soft spoken, very detailed and patient also. I also got to see the reptiles they had at the museum. Totally recommend this place as one of the attraction sites to see if you are visiting Kigali for the first time.
  • Great place to visit. It is easy to find and it is quite beautiful incide. You get ticket at the entrance and can choose what you would like to visit an exposition which will tell you about culture, it's history , crafts or you can pay only for the tickets to see the snakes and a small crocodile. People who are working there are really friendly and openly answer on all the questions you get. Highly recommended!
  • 6,000 RWF entry fee for the Kandt House "museum" is almost criminal. There's not that much to see here and I was offered a "snake and reptile" experience for an additional fee. I'm glad that I declined it because the reptile enclosure looks to be an incredibly state of affairs. If you set your expectations correctly and are ok with the entry fee for what amounts to a few small rooms of information and artifacts, come for a visit.
  • Entry fee is from 2,000 rwanda franc but to have access to the whole museum, budget 10,000. The museum wasnt always a museum, it was a residential home to Mr Richard Kandt.
  • Kandt House Museum, previously known as Kandt House Museum of Natural History about 1km west from downtown Kigali, I'ts under the responsibility of the Institute of National Museums of Rwanda. The museum was residence to a German explorer Richard Kandt who it is now named after. There's a wide view of the city from the back of the Museum (picture attached) The have a one crocodile in the museum and large collections of reptiles: different kinds of the snakes. The tour was quite quick as I spent about 40-50mins. There's a tuck shop in the reception where you can buy books and some art crafts. There's a visitors register where you can sign and drop a goodwill message.
