Home to the majestic mountain gorilla, Volcanoes National Park encompasses a dramatic landscape of wildlife, rainforest, and active and extinct volcanoes. Lying in the northwest of Rwanda, bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, the park boasts a famous abundance of mountain gorillas, with gorilla-tracking visits topping most tourist itineraries here. Uncover the thick rainforest paths of this dense mountain jungle, with trekking also available on some of the five Virunga Mountain volcanoes, or to the grave of acclaimed zoologist Dian Fossey. Gorilla tracking is limited; book early, and come prepared for challenging hikes. • Volcanoes has the honor of being the very first National Park created in Africa, first gazette in 1925 as a small area intended to protect gorillas from poachers. Today it covers over 50 sq miles...

  • Fantastic jungle trekking and gorilla experience. Once in a life time, bucket list, must do experience. Very experienced and knowledgeable guides. Done in a sustainable, environmentally friendly and respectful of the animals way. You get close but are kept away from touching or directly interacting with these magnificent animals. Well worth the cost. (Note the trekking can be tough. It is more treacherous than strenuous, and watch out for the stinging nettle!!)
  • The most beautiful place I've ever seen. I've been all over the world, and Volcanoes National Park takes the top spot. The scenery is stunning and the gorillas encounters are surreal. The hiking is difficult at times but a lot of fun and you see fascinating things along the way. Worth every single penny.
  • I was so excited to be there. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had Mr Fidel as our guide and he is the best. Our experience visiting the gorillas is a memorable one.
  • Unbelievable experience. Well coordinated. Loved seeing the golden monkeys and going on the gorilla trek. PCR covid test within 72hrs required. Testing on site $50ea. Masks required when near primates to help prevent transmission of Covid. Staff was friendly. Guides were excellent! We had Daniel and Augustin for golden Monkey trek and Ferdinand for the Gorilla Trek. The porters were amazing help. Don’t forget to tip your trackers, porter, and guides.
  • This is where the briefing takes place, before your trek. The guide explains everything here and shared what family you will be trekking. Emmanuel was our guide, for the #Igisha family. He was brilliant. His manner, how he makes you feel safe and how he explains what you can expect next, was top notch. From here you still drive anything from 30 min to 1hr to the actual site.
