Trip Planner: South Pacific / Samoa / Upolu / Lotofaga / To Sua Ocean Trench
Marvel at the splendor of To Sua Ocean Trench, a massive swimming hole filled with blue water and surrounded by lush vegetation. The swimming hole is set deep in the ground, so a ladder is required to enter and exit. The water fills the hole via an ancient lava tube connected to the ocean, which creates a current. Weak swimmers can take hold of a rope across the center of the hole. Bring something to cover up with when you're not swimming, as conservative dress is requested out of the water. A few picnic tables are available, so consider packing some refreshments. The water was so clear, cold and refreshing! Going down the stairs and ladder to enter the beautiful ocean trench was worth it! I’ll definitely be coming back again to swim when I visit next...

An amazing natural swimming trench with clear and cool ocean water in a well maintained beautiful landscape. The views from the cliff top are worth the admission alone. The actual To Sua Ocean Trench is a must see with curious caves, flora and fauna in the surrounding crevices. Amazing!
The Tuna Trench, also known as the To Sua Ocean Trench, is a unique natural attraction in Samoa. It is a large, round hole in the ground that is filled with crystal clear water. Visitors can swim in the trench or take a ladder down to the bottom to explore. The trench is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and is a popular spot for tourists. The To Sua Ocean Trench is a natural swimming hole located in Lotofaga village, on the southern coast of Upolu island in Samoa. The Trench is also known for its beautiful landscape and peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Samoa.
Stunning. Only 20 tala per person to visit, there’s a little shop on entry which has a good stock of convenient things + snacks. Ladder is very thick & strong, my daughter managed just fine & shes 3. The only thing I would do upon return is pack lighter, just swimmers & a sarong to cover you on your way down is fine & a waterproof bag for important belongings as there’s no where to put them except for the small section of boardwalk behind the ladder (which gets wet). Grounds are very well kept, nice lawns & breathtaking scenery. Make sure to explore the surrounds whilst there to take it all in. Must do 10/10
Stunningly beautiful, entry fee was 20 tala per person but well worth it. We were fortunate to get there while it was very quiet so almost had the place to ourselves. Would 100% recommend doing this on your holiday to Samoa.
This place was amazing....spectacular......and breathtaking all at once. Remember to respect the rules, stay safe and take heaps of photos.
