Create an itinerary including Kozjak Waterfall
The Kozjak Brook cascades over many slopes, forming the six picturesque Kozjak Waterfall along its way. Walk from Kobarid through a lush forest along the river to reach Great Kozjak, one of the two accessible falls. On your way there you can make a short detour and see the remains of the World War I bunkers on the right. Cross a swing bridge and walk over a slippery limestone path to reach the wooden observation deck. Plunging from a height of 15 m (50 ft), the waterfall carves a dim underground chamber that looks like a rocky amphitheater. The chamber's increasingly narrow walls resemble karst caves and the vast turquoise pool covers its bottom. • Beautiful waterfall, well worth of your visit. There is a slow half hour walk from the parking lot to the waterfall. The gravel road is wide and well maintained, easy to access for the elderly or small children. Better not to go with a stroller. There is a parking fee and an entrance fee during the tourist season but in the late fall/winter it's free.
  • The waterfall itself was very busy even though you have to pay 5€ to enter. We have seen prettier ones that were free. However, if you park on the other side of the soca river, you will cross a hanging bridge. Next to the bridge you can descend down to the river for a great swim, beware of the cold river temperature 😄
  • A great place to visit. More by luck we got there early and there was no one else there which made it really nice. The viewing platform is well placed so even if there are other people they will not get in your photos. However photos don't do this place justice, it's one of those places you visit because of a nice picture but it's so much better in real life. Water level was low when we went, getting along the path when the water level rises would add a whole new experience as you go along the ledge. You should wear descent shoes on the last bit. The walk from the carpark to the pay hut is quite long and we encountered people who thought they had gone the wrong way but from the pay hut to the waterfall it's not far. The walk starts in hay meadows, then on a path above the river with some great views looking up the river, old tunnels (only go in a short distance) and a lovely wooded side valley. Portable toilets are just a few minutes from the carpark on the way to the waterfall.
  • This is how the waterfall really looks like. They charged us 5€ per person for the entrance. The waterfall is definitely not worth the money. I would suggest going before 8 am, then its free. There were no toilets.
  • As recommendation: visit the fall very early or in the evening (Op. hrs 08 am to 08 pm). Unfortunately, too many stay too long on the viewing platform during the day and jostle / push around - no consideration for the fact that others also want to take pictures (unfortunately, to many people are selfish). And in addition a large group (>20) that climbed and jumped. So no opportunity for nice photos, because some jumpers hesitated in fear and that in the middle of the waterfall....a shame! Take the suspension bridge with the great view on the river …it‘s so beautiful!
