Brdo Castle near Kranj is an estate and a mansion in the Slovenian region of Upper Carniola west of the village of Predoslje northwest of Ljubljana. It is the Slovenian Government's main venue for diplomatic meetings and other Government-sponsored events.
The present mansion was built in 1510 by Carniolan nobleman Georg (Jurij) Egkh, general administrator of Habsburg private estates in the Duchy of Carniola. It was initially built in the Renaissance style, but has been frequently renovated since. In the 18th century, it was bought by Michelangelo Zois, father of the Carniolan Enlightenment patron of the arts and natural scientist Žiga Zois. In the 19th century, it changed hands several times, with its interior being completely renovated. In the first decades of the 20th century it fell into decay until it was bought by Prince Paul of Yugoslavia in 1935. Prince Paul transformed Brdo from an eclectic and biedermeier provincial mansion into a refined summer royal residence. Between 1935 and 1941, several prominent individuals stayed as guests at Brdo, including Edward VIII of the United Kingdom.

  • Peaceful walk around, beautiful nature, objects for state protocol use nearby. Worth seeing. Forget rental electric karts, they are way overpriced. You can do it all on foot.

  • The setting of a 2001 US-Russia summit between George W Bush and Vladimir Putin is sure to be on center stage during Slovenia’s turn at the EU presidency. Our admission was half price during covid...

  • Nice relaxing walk through the park. After that coffee and toast at the bar with very nice staff. We will visit again for sure.

  • Great place for short visit or spending whole day in the nature. Beautiful park, historical place. Entrance is charged. Parking is free for visitors without time limitations in this period of the year.
  • Castle was closed for public when we visited and could only explore the garden/park outside. It's a good place to walk with lake, stream and trees but nothing special.
  • Wonderful and very known place due to frequent statesman visits and political events. However, the beauty is not in the facility itself, but in the surrounding park, which is packed with tranquility and silence. Visitors can walk or rent a golf car and spend a few hours relaxing, meditating, or watching fish drifting in green lakes. You can also visit the stable with magnificent Lipican horses or purchase a picnic basket and enjoy some local food in tree shadows. Ideal for family or romantic hangouts. One star was deducted only due to lack of more content, especially for children. Worth visiting, many times!
  • For just about 5€ you can see all of it and i'm sure you can't see it all, its just so big and you could probably spend your whole day there. Such beautiful architecture and to be so nicely clean is so rare these days
  • Really nice park to walk around (dogs not allowed). It's 5 eur entry fee for adults (was 50% off when I went, maybe because of Covid). Many walking paths to enjoy your time there. Free parking on site. Also a restaurant, but currently closed because of Covid. Recommend going, good day trip from Ljubljana.
