Create an itinerary including Cathedral of St. Nicholas
Visit one of the city's landmarks and a prime example of mature Baroque in Slovenia at Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Modeled after Rome's most famous Jesuit church Il Gesu, the building replaced an earlier Gothic church, dominating the skyline with its twin towers and green dome. The most prominent features of the exterior are the elaborately decorated wooden and bronze doors and Roman tombstones built in the exterior walls. Notice the keystone with Christ near the entrance, which was preserved from the older church. The Gothic pieta and statues of significant bishops and saints stand in the niches of the facade. The interior features a painted dome and the altar of Corpus Christi surrounded by angels. • This is a beautiful church which can be seen from both sides of the river. It unusually has both a steeple and a dome.

  • Visited Cathedral of St Nickolas and took several photos inside this beautiful church. Painting in all the alcoves and on the ceiling. Really very impressive. Both exterior doors are works of art.

  • Beautiful church, outside with pictures on the walls and details on the door. From the entrance you will be amazed by the interior. In the Baroque style it is covered with frescoes and statues, a gilded pulpit and a stunning roof. The photographs are not adequate to do justice to this magnificent cathedral. So spend time touring and just watching this amazing work of art. A must if you are passing by.
  • Absolutely gorgeous cathedral. Love the story behind the side door. Go for the Free Walking Tour to find out more. I'll let the pictures speak for itself!
  • It’s a lovely church. Why three stars? Cos They ask for 2€ to enter. Maybe cos I’m Italian, so I’m used to our churches all around, with marbles and frescos etc, but I have to admit I probably wouldn’t give those euros again if I were to come back. The entrance door though is quite unique.
  • The entrance costs two euros, which seemed fair to me. There aren't many people, or at least at the time I went (January) it was like that. beautiful architecture
  • Lovely cathedral with interesting front door...€2 well spent
