  • We went for the kayaking and it was definitely well worth it. The train took us inside the mountain for 15min. We then descended 3 floors down an inclined shaft (all metal steps), got changed into dry suites and went down another floor to reach the water. From there we took our kayak (2 seater) along some more tunnels (wading through the water, but dry suites meant it was fine) and launched our kayak. After a final safety briefing we were let loose and we could go in any direction we wanted. The golden rule is stay in the kayak due to some areas been very deep. It turned out there was only one way out of the area which our guide guarded until the time was up. Using your hands to push the kayak was needed at times and some passages were too narrow to pass so someone had to reverse. The guide gave lots of info about the mine which was an old lead mine and you can see bits of the lead ore. To exit we went out over a waterfall (less than 1m high) which was fun and brought the kayaks back to the start. After going back up a level to the changing rooms (check out the bathroom, it's an unexpected sight) we then had a tour of the mine and made our way up 3 levels were we were greeted by a minors lunch, LOTS of meat cottage cheese etc and drinks. Finally back to the train. The mines also do other tours like walking and cycling which also looked good fun.
  • A very unique experience. Max 10 people per group and best to reserve in advance. You are brought into the mine by a small train, inside a very small compartment. After that, the guide takes you around a small piece of the mine and you descend to go kayaking. A wetsuit, helmet and gloves are provided. The kayaking is really fun and safe. The submerged mine shafts are really something to behold. After the kayaking it's back up and the guide explains more about the miners and the mine in general. A miner's meal is also provided, consisting of bread, salami, other meat and also a combination of cheese and onion. After the meal you ascend further and back into the train. Caution: not for people with serious claustrophobia or serious fear of heights. I really recommend this because I haven't seen anything like this in Europe.
  • Fantasric place where you will discover the incredible hard work the workers did since 1650. Very clean and drinkable water on which you can have an easy kayaking adventure.
  • One of the best experience you can have in Slovenia! And I did twice 🔝
  • Joined the kayak tour back in May 2022 and it was such an amazing experience! It was fun to take the miner's train and kayak in the flooded parts of the mine, after navigating through the hundreds of steps downwards. After the kayak session, we got a simple and tasty lunch of cold cuts and bread which I believe were from a local farm. After the lunch, we were brought around on the tour and were given very interesting insights about the mine and their miners (including the children mine runners). Thank you to our guide (sorry Mr ex-sailor, I forgot your name!! :() who made the experience fun and memorable, and who took the effort to explain in both English and Slovene even though the rest of the group were locals and we were the only tourists who needed the English translation. The staff at the shop were also very friendly and kind; all of them made our short trip here the perfect experience! :)
