Create an itinerary including St. George's Church
Standing on a small hill reinforced with stone arches, St. George's Church dominates the town center. The present cathedral was built in the 14th century, but its Baroque facade dates from 1637. Legend has it that at the end of the 16th century Saint George blinded the skeptical mayor in order to motivate the citizens to restore the decaying church. Among the rich interior decoration, keep an eye out for a large medieval Gothic crucifix, a small silver-plated sculpture of St. George, and a Roman sarcophagus converted into a baptismal font. From the 46 m (150 ft) bell tower, a smaller copy of the Venetian San Marco Campanile, you can see panoramas of the Slovenian, Croatian, and Italian coast, and sometimes as far as the Julian Alps. • This is a great church up hill above the city center of Piran. The view is good from here. We could not enter the church, but saw it from the beginning and that was nice.

  • We have been visiting Piran for few hours on our day trip. The church stands on a hill and from the top of the cliff you have an amazing view of the town and of the coast. The church is dedicated to St. George and is very bright and nice. When we have been visiting there was an artist that was playing an arp and made a very magical and relaxing atmosphere. Loved it.
  • I have not got inside. But the area has the best view. Beautiful sunset colors
  • Take the stairs all way up and see the most fabulous view all piran from up.
  • A very beautiful place. Definitely worth seeing it. It has amazing views towards Italy and Trieste and along the voastline walking path to Fiesa. All though the vhurch was closed, there was the door opening where you could see the inside of this beautiful interior and listed to lovely calm music.
  • It was only a few euros to go up and see the whole Piran from this tower. It is definitely worth to take this bit of a hike on the wooden stairs. The view from here is magnificent. While you are walking on the wooden stairs, there are angel names engraved in the wood in Latin, Hebrew and Old Greek languages. I recommend going up during sunset. You won’t be disappointed!
