Beautiful church, with a famous bell tower which has a several theories about its form "without typical roof". I'am not sure, but I think that curch is not open every day and all the day.

Gothic church with newer bell tower is the most dominant building in the village Štanjel. It has some interesting stone altars inside. You have beautiful view from terrace near the church.

The parish church of St. Danijela is located in the old part of Štanjelo, in Gornja vas, it is visible immediately upon entering the castle gate. The church was built between 1455 and 1460 on the site of an older building. Despite later Baroque reconstructions, it represents one of the key monuments of Gothic architecture in the Karst. From the characteristic Gothic elements, two more Gothic entrances and bricked-up windows and a cornice of external buttresses next to the presbytery can be seen on the exterior. Inside, a Gothic pointed arch leads to the presbytery. The church got its baroque appearance in the 17th and 18th centuries. The most interesting is the relief depiction of Štanjel Castle on the main altar. Next to the main altar are two wooden statues of saints, the work of the important Styrian sculptor Johan Straub. The bell tower was added to the church about 150 years later, in 1609, and because of its unique roof, it became a symbol of Štanjel. The church of San Daniele (Stanjel precisely in Slovenian) is a much older building than the current appearance would suggest. The current construction dates back to the 16th century (the traces of the previous Gothic windows are clearly visible), but rests on older foundations, while the interior decorations are from the Baroque period. Outside are visible the coats of arms of the Italian noble family that has had the dominion of this area for years (and of which some burials are visible inside). Inside, the capitals of the triumphal arch are particularly noteworthy, in the form of faced lions and dragons. The curious "lemon" shape of the bell tower is thought to be due to the need, in the period of the Turkish invasions from the Adriatic up to here, to make the Turks think that it was the minaret of a mosque, and therefore to avoid possible attacks ( which, moreover, there have never been able to violate the walls to defend the city).
