When you descend with Slovenia’s oldest working lift into the underground part of the Coal Mining Museum of Slovenia, you find yourself in the world of Velenje’s miners and lignite. An hour and a half long Underground adventure, including riding the coal mining train, leads you through historic scenes with dolls and audiovisual presentations of miners’ lives and work. Whilst there, you might be surprised; in the dining hall situated 160 metres below the earth’s surface, probably the deepest dining hall in the world, you’ll enjoy a miners’ lunch: a piece of bread and Carnolian spiced pork sausage.

The tour is very interesting and authentic, First you get to wear the miners coat and take paacked lunch with you. You then join the guide who leads you and the group in the underground world of this.... more

We arrived without making a reservation and only just got a place. It probably would have been a good idea to book in advance. Tour was conducted in English and was very informative about the history.... more

Must visit site when You are in Velenje area. 👌I visited some mining museums but this is totally unique experience. Guide was former miner so the interpretation was personal. Museum is part of the still running coal mining company. Do not eat before entering museum. They have very nice surprise for You. 👌

Absolutely amazing place to go! The tour was really extraordinary and I'm happy for being part of the coal miners team for a moment. It's definetely a must see place in Velenje! And nearby is the beautiful lake, so be sure you jump there too.

It was a great experience s ing the old mines of velenje. The Tourguide was nice, fun and friendly. I especially loved the dinner we had in the mines. Interesting place to learn about the history of the coal mines there.
