Nestled up against the rocky coastline, Haedong Yonggungsa offers sweeping sea views and a rare example of oceanfront medieval architecture in the country. Originally constructed in 1376, the temple has in the following centuries undergone several periods of restoration and reconstruction. Make your way along the 108 steps to the main part of the sanctuary, and you'll find the path lined with anthropomorphic animal statues representing the signs of the zodiac. Peel off towards the sea to get a panoramic view out over the water from the rocky viewpoint, where you can feel the breeze blowing and hear the waves crashing against the shore. Explore the main portion of the temple and find its numerous nooks and crannies, filled with icons, statues, and artworks dedicated to teachings of the Buddhist faith. The interesting and spectacular location makes it worth the visit. The commercial trappings diminish the spiritual aspect and serenity of the place.

Taxi is the best way to go. Best went early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Nice view of the sea. Overall pleasant experience but nothing too special IMHO.

Really pretty place! The whole coast is gorgeous and it leads to the temple on the right hand side. The coast walk is so easy and pleasant. Its so nice to get the sea air while walking. Also, on the weekends is less crowded in the morning.

Beautiful Buddhist temple, possibly the most beautiful in all of Korea, imo. A lot to see here, best to arrive early before the crowds. Good options for snacks/souvenirs on the walk to the entrance. Nice view from the cafe within the temple area as well. There are a lot of steps, but there is an easier path for those with limited mobility through the bamboo trees, just before the tall pagoda and main entrance, to the right.

It is a spectacular temple built beside the sea! A lot of tourists were there and kids were also walking in lines as they had their field trip there as well. A lot of souvenirs are being sold and there is also a cafe to relax as you climb up many stairs. Overall, a breathtaking place to be in.

This is an incredible Buddhist temple by the sea which you rarely get to see anywhere else. Though it's out of the way from Busan, it is highly recommended to come explore this. There are a lot of other tourists here but it's still worth it. The coastline and architecture on it are truly unique. Do not miss this.

What an amazing place to visit. Incredible views and a wonderfully serene atmosphere. Even if you do not practice Buddhism, I believe that the peace and serenity that this place offers is well worth the visit and everyone of all faiths should feel welcome to come pay their respects.
