Gosu Cave (고수동굴 - Kosu is also still found as an alternate spelling) is a huge limestone cave near Danyang (North Chungcheong Province), South Korea formed over 450 million years ago. It is among the best known natural caves in Korea, and is known as the "underground palace". Gosu Cave is listed as the country's "Natural Monument No. 256".
"Gosu" means "field of tall reeds," and comes from the fact that the area used to be filled with fields of tall grasses. After the cave was discovered in the early 1970s, rough stone instruments were excavated from the cave's entrance, showing that this used to be a home to prehistoric people.

  • My partner and I had a great trip to Danyang and visited the Gosu caves in our time there. The caves are reachable by walking from Danyang town - it’s about 15/20 minutes walk from the main bus...

  • It's dark but beautiful. I couldn't see all the space in the cave. Because the state was protecting it. You can see various things in the cave. For example, stalactites, stalagmites, or stalagmites...

  • Fantastic cave system with extensive steel walking path throughout. Amazing stalactite rock formations inside with pools of water often opens into huge caverns. It's about 2 hours or 3 hours to get here from Seoul but definitely worth it and doable for a day trip. Takes about 45 minutes to walk through.
  • Very interesting for me. I was pretty impressed by The older people who made it all the way through. Just be careful, there are some tight squeezes and the metal floor is quite slippery in many places.
  • First visit at this cave I am amazed. Its different from other cave I visited before amazingly beautiful. I am always down for adventure I love this place. Just be prepare for many stares and it'll be a long walk
  • Cool experience. Prepare yourself for many stairs. They provide you with gloves for better grip of the slippery hand rails.
  • Awesome cave; but not for the larger stomached. Your average large American would have difficulty traversing through some places. The path is really well made (all aluminum walkways welded in place) and the interesting parts of the cave are beautifully lit. The walk is about 1.7 km and takes less than an hour. I would highly recommend this destination
