A 30 m tall (98.5 ft) and 23 m (75.5 ft) wide lava tube penetrating more than 13 km (8 mi) into the earth, Manjanggul Cave makes up part of a World Heritage Site sheltering exceptional volcanic rock formations and wildlife. Observe the world's largest lava column standing 7.6 m (25 ft) tall, and a stone shape resembling Jeju Island. Part of a larger lava tube system, the cave features the greatest number of living creatures of all tubes on the island, including bats and the Jeju cave-spider. Formed 200,000-300,000 years ago, the tunnel remains remarkably well-preserved with lava stalagmites and stalactites and cascades of funky flowstones. Watch the slippery steps and dress for 10 C (50 F). Add Manjanggul Cave to your Jeju travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Jeju online journey planner.

It was quite disappointing to come all the way here to realized that it’s closed due to internal safety diagnosis of Manjanggul cave!

Unlike limestone caves with more dramatic formations and structures, there isn’t as many dramatic formations here but it is still a highly educational experience to see how such lava caved were...

Interesting place to visit. The rock formations inside are beautiful and unique. It is a little cold, wet and damp inside. Make sure to wear a jacket and have walking shoes. Classified as a UNESCO heritage site, this is an amazing must-see attraction on your trip to Jeju. The entire length of this lava tube is about 15km but 1km is open for public. You can see many lava rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites as well as lava textures on the floor of the cave. It is relatively an easy walk but not suitable for KIDS. There is an entrance fee to go inside but it was well worth the visit. There are ample free parking before the entrance.

This cave is roughly 700m long (though longer, but not available for the public) - and gets immediately cold when you enter! So bring a jacket or a sweater. The tunnel is full of information - but at the end - it’a mostly a dark hole. Many tourists on weekend. Also there is an entrance fee.

Very interesting place to visit. Honestly an eye opener for me and very educational. Was amazed by the rock formations. The cave is dark, cold and wet. The ground is also uneven. Need to be careful when walking. Humidity is also very high. The walk to the end isn't very far but as you'll be walking in the dark and on a wet and uneven ground, it'll take some time.

It's definitely worth a one time visit if you're visiting Jeju. Quite a lot of parking space available. It's a 'wet walk' inside and you have water dripping from the ceiling in many places. Thus wear a cap and try not to wear cloth shoes. It's also really dark inside. So you may need to use a torch or your phone's flashlight. It can also get really cool inside. Hence wear a jacket if you're doubtful.

Absolutely loved this place. The caves make you feel like you have travelled back to history. The whole walk to the end and back to the entrance of the cave takes minimum 45 to 1hr. There's also luggage locker near the ticket booth and restrooms
