Create an itinerary including Myeong-dong Cathedral
Besides serving as the seat of Seoul's archbishop, Myeong-dong Cathedral remains the symbol of Catholicism in South Korea. Completed in 1898, the imposing structure is dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, regarded as the patron saint of the Korean nation. Admire the towering brick building, a prominent example of the Gothic Revival style, or step inside to admire the lavishly decorated walls and stained glass windows of the interior. You can take part in mass, in English, every weekend. Plan a Seoul trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

  • As it's name says this Cathedral is at the end of the famous Myeongdong shopping street, just a short 5 min uphill walk. It's the main Cathedral of Seoul built in 19c in Gothic revival style.

  • Myeongdong Cathedral is over a hundred years old. It is a renaissance Gothic building. It’s not only a historic religious site but also a refuge among democratic activists. It’s one of the few sites you should visit.
  • It was great to visit this cathedral. Gothic in design. Lovely at night as the cathedral has lights on. Loved the stain glass window. Don't forget to visit the crypt. Inside the cathedral, the ceilings are lovely. Simple but does the job. Worth a visit.
  • Beautiful old cathedral at the heart of the city. Visited during the night so couldn’t come inside but the building architecture is very aesthetically pleasing and well maintained. The site also includes history of Catholic religion developments in Korea. Recommended to walk through this complex to appreciate its architecture and significance (even if you are not religious)
  • Lovely place and architecture. Big compound. There is an English mass on Sundays at 9am (as of now - do check again if you intend to attend). There's also a nice book store and outdoor garden with Mother Mary statue for some self reflection/ quiet time. Easily accessible from Myeon-dong Station Exit 8....
  • Beautiful church building with a strong local history. The church is open to the public but please be aware this is an operating place of worship so be aware of service times and avoid "touring" when in use. At Christmas, there were fun decorations outside like a manger and wisemen display. Indoors there were Christmas trees. There is a gift shop and cafe underneath the cathedral. Nearby there is shopping so if you're in the area it's worth the hike up the hill to see it.
