Find the ideal combination of culture and history at Hwahongmun Gate. Designed atop a small local stream, the bridge-like gate serves as a great spot for enjoying views of the town and the surrounding scenery. Take a walk on the gate, or along the stream, and enjoy the traditional Eastern-style architecture. Browse through quaint stalls selling various souvenirs and local artworks as you go. Outside the wall of the gate, you can see a small pond underneath cherry trees, which look beautifull during the cherry blossom season. • This gate is part of the Hwaseong Fortress. If you walk the wall/fortress loop you will see this “water gate”. Very picturesque, recommend visiting on a day with good weather.

  • Located above a stream this is the Water Gate for Hwaseong Fortress. Very picturesque and a good place to stop on the curcuit of the fortress walls. Not much water in the stream when we were there.

  • This was my favorite part of the entire fortress wall, although to really see it properly, you're going to want to see it from atop the wall, outside the wall, and inside the wall. Inside the wall there is a stream which provides fantastic photo opportunities with the reflections in the water. It looks really impressive from the inside. From the outside it looks so unassuming compared to the inside, but it's still really cool. On top you have views of gates/towers on either side. Definitely check out this section of the wall, it is pretty awesome. To the southwest you can find most of the more iconic sites, while as you head to the northeast the sites will get less and less impressive. But this place was the pinnacle of the Hwaseong Fortress for me
  • Great experience and enjoyed walking during spring day. The area is accessible from Seoul via train or bus which takes an hour or more depending where you stay.
  • Oh what a beautiful place. I will let the pics speak. It's too bad the land is small and they can't aggressively restore so many of their historical sights in Korea, but I am grateful that they(Korea and UNESCO) spent time and money to restore this place. We happened to catch the sunset and it was an absolute pleasure to be there.
  • there is just romentic i want to live near there. because The pond and scenery from the pavilion are really beautiful and peaceful. i need them everyday in my busy daily life. i recommend visiting here in spring and fall. but it is always good to go there.
  • We had a nice, pleasant and calm stroll along the wall of fortress. The contrast between old buildings/fortification and modern city is fascinating) There are a lot of info panels with interesting details, so you can learn smth new about Suwon history. )
