Iglesia de Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion, Briones

A magnificent church in what is deemed to be possibly the prettiest town in the Rioja region. I cannot vouch for that as I haven't visited them all but if there is a prettier one it will have to be something very special. The church is simply breathtaking in its size and structure. One simply marvels at the skill of the craftsmen and the vision of the architects. As an agnostic one also has to ponder on how the vast sums of money might have been better spent, but be grateful nevertheless for the legacy of that indulgence. There are many spectacular secular buildings in Briones . It is a town one simplý should not miss if in the area. Avoid weekends....crowded, and when we were there we had to suffer a musical performance in the main Plaza....so noisy that we left and moved on to San Vicente de La Sonsierra. Also worth a visit though not as rewarding as Briones and a mere 5 miles away.

Simply beautiful, completely deserted at this time of year.

Beautiful church, impressive and very careful. It also has a representation of the town in medieval times. I was impressed by the tremendous organ with its battle trumpet. It is worth leaving a donation and enjoying the music and lights. Beautiful, I repeat.🫶👁️

One of the most beautiful parishes in all of La Rioja. It dates from the first half of the sixteenth century and is built in stone masonry, Catholic Monarchs style. Its wide and slender floor plan stands out, as well as the height of its roof, whose vault presents star-shaped ribs. Another precious detail is its 17th century balustrade and the excellent chapels, especially the one dedicated to Martín de Hircio, a Renaissance knight who accompanied Hernán Cortés in the conquest of Mexico. Although without a doubt the great jewel is the choir, with 23 hand-carved seats, and the 18th century organ.

Of great beauty on the outside and also on the inside. What surprised me the most is the large size of its interior columns, the beauty of its sacristy, the organ, the choir, the access staircase to the choir... We went at Christmas time and they had a beautiful Nativity scene.
