Create an itinerary including Riddarholmen Church
Home to the burial ground of the Swedish monarchs, Riddarholmen Church represents one of the oldest buildings in the capital city and is used to this day for commemorative burials (although the congregation dissolved in 1807). The church was originally built in the 13th century as a monastery, but was closed and transformed into a Protestant church following the Protestant Reformation. Of particular interest are the coats of arms of passed knights of The Order of Seraphim that hang from the church walls. • You can visit inside here with a paired ticket to the royal palace. The regents of Sweden back to the 1600’s are all entombed here and there’s a lot of history within the walls. Not a grand and...

  • Historical value, very impressive, the ticket lady knew greek and she was very polite! Definitely worth a visit
  • Church very similar to other churches in Europe. In my opinion it was nothing special. It is a short walk away from gamla Stan and student tickets are cheaper and it was nice that they did not look for student id. Apparently the reciept of the ticket here gets you a discount at the other museum at the royal palace.
  • We didn't hit the right time to visit the inside, but the architectural details on the outside alone were worth stopping by. There are historical models outside to help explain the history, which we liked a lot. It was chilly out the day we went and the were doing some construction (looked like public works stuff) right by the one end of the church, so we didn't spend as much time in the area of the church as we might have, but it was definitely worth the walk over there.
  • Breathtaking church! The pictures do not do it justice but this church is MASSIVE! Very beautiful cobblestone all around it with a beautiful plaza around. It was closed at the time I arrived but the pipe organ is a must see if you are able to come here! Also this church is old, dating back to the 13th century!
  • Only say this medieval church from outside, but it is impressive mix of gothic style with baroque chapels. Pay attention to the spire it is not very typical.
