The Cathedral of Bern
Rising over the old town, The Cathedral of Bern stands as the tallest cathedral in Switzerland. The structure's crowning feature is its 100.6 m (330 ft) tower, which affords views of the Alps on a clear day from the top. To get there, you'll need to climb about 350 steep stone steps, which take you past the original church bells. Built in 1421, today the Gothic cathedral is a Cultural Property of National Significance. Pay the small entrance fee to visit the tower, or enjoy a free cathedral tour of the main area. An impressive building on a pretty square - it has the tallest spire in the country and you can see it from pretty much everywhere in the old town.

I really liked this cathedral. It may not be as grand as some of the others in Europe but it was so peaceful and pleasant inside. You can also climb up to the rooftop for 5 francs. Great views of the city up there!

Do you like Harry Potter? Well, then welcome to Hogwarts. The Cathedral has such a great charm, personality and style that it looks like a movie location, and in many corners and details I ensure you'll believe to almost see Harry and his friends, or Silente entering his office. Windows are finely decorated, you'll find different styles and pieces of art, but the central area (around the baptisms place) is pure pure magic. Do you need more? Well, the park next to the church is one of the nicest areas of the whole city, for some relaxation on the grass and an amazing view of the river and surroundings.

The cathedral built from 1421 onwards reflects political and economic developments in Bern. Its grandiosity is, at the same time, a reflection of the importance of the Catholic Church at the time and the need to demonstrate the power of the government, which was conquering adjacent territories. One of the highlights of the Gothic-style façade is the depiction of the Last Judgment on the main portal. The work is considered one of the most complete collections of European sculptures of this style.

The main church of Bern and perhaps the most magnificent one, the church has impressive historical carvings and statues on its entrance, in addition to its iconic tower. Entrance is free, but you can pay 5 Swiss Francs to climb it for a view of the city. There are also information boards that detail the church's story in English as well, which I really liked. If you need to choose only one church to visit in Bern, this should be the one. The church also has a relaxing park beside it.

Gorgeous view from the top, but I warn you; it is not easy to get up there :) A lot of steps on the tiny spiral stairs. It is very safe tho and worth climbing.
