Create an itinerary including UNESCO-Altstadt von Bern
Stroll through UNESCO-Altstadt von Bern, a World Heritage Site with arcaded walkways arranged along streets dotted with hundreds of public fountains. Although most of its structures underwent massive restoration in the 18th century, the old neighborhood retains much of its original layout and character. Home to Switzerland's tallest cathedral, the atmospheric Old Town stretches along a U-shaped peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the Aare River. Begin your walk through medieval Bern at the Old Town's landmark clock tower, featuring one of the world's earliest examples of animatronic technology. To see what the locals call "the longest running act in show biz," stand in front of the clock on the hour. Make your Bern itinerary with Klarna Trips to find out what to see and where to go.

  • The capital of Switzerland, old town of Bern is big and pretty. I saw a clock tower for the first time and it was interesting to look at. There are trams running throughout the city. There are many beautiful fountains and lovely to look at.
  • The Bern's Old Town is the No.1 Must See Place when you go to Bern. I admit that I had doubts before I came here but then, I fully understood why this old town had become a world's heritage! Its calmness, medieval buildings, streets, fountains, & the beautiful & elegant clock towers, have made this Old Town be possibly the most pretty Historic Town in Switzerland! Tips: It's easy to get here from the Bern's Station too, just look up & follow one of the clock towers. (Please note that the picture showed as the caption in Google's UNESCO Von Bern is actually the Zetgloge Clock Tower, which is an ancient landmark from the 13th century.)
  • A single word is needed here: Lovely. One of the best towns in Switzerland, possibly in the central Europe. YOU DO WANNA VISIT BERN, trust me.
  • Charming part of town to walk through - almost as if transported to a different era. Nice restaurants and shops on the way, ending up near the bridge and the Bear Haus.
  • Really beautiful town, with old buildings having history loads. Best view towards the Swiss Alps, while being in the park near the Parliament building.
