Create an itinerary including Grindelwald-First
Use Grindelwald-First as a starting point for many scenic hikes and ski trails in the Swiss Alps. Sitting above the mountain village of Grindelwald, the summit is quickly reachable by gondola railway and provides panoramic views of the surrounding snow-covered peaks. From here you have access to over 60 km (37 mi) of ski slopes and about 40 km (25 mi) of marked footpaths. Have a bite to eat at the on-site restaurant or relax on the sun terrace with seats for up to 300 people. Instead of hiking or taking the railway back to Grindelwald, descend on the 800 m (2,624 ft) zipline, which races down the mountain at speeds exceeding 80 km/h (50 mph). Put Grindelwald-First on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Grindelwald travel planner.

  • Beautiful views on a clear day. Also can sign up for paragliding from First. Mountain carts are really fun! By the end of day the lines for activities like carts and gliders get really long, so should do early in the day.
  • One of the most beautiful place on Earth. MUST visit if you in this region of Interlaken/Luterbrunnen. Without any discount (Like Swiss pass or visiting pass/card), it will cost 64 Swiss Frank return trip, but it's worth it. The cable car takes about 25 minutes to get to the first. Try to spend a whole day and you won't be disappointed. Must visit Bachalpsee lake if you are up there. The view from the mountain is just jaw dropping. Check weather before you go up there so you can enjoy fully. Parking place could be full, so go to Grindelwald early around 8 or 9am. Highly recommend with whole family.
  • A breathtaking scenic hike on first. I took a gondola to the top, hiked for 1hour to Bachalpsee, and then walked onward to first Cliff Walk. A magnificent sight and hike. It gets very cold and quite windy at the top. Don't forget your snacks and warm drinks.
  • The views from the top of Grindelwald First were lovely. Like every place the region, even place has views unique from the others and well worth visiting. Grindelwald First definitely was the most "touristy" of them all, with expensive "thrill" experiences. It also had tourists who were the most disrespectful of everywhere we went. I was shocked to watch people writing on the mountain with sharpies, dropping garbage off the cliff walk, and not being considerate of others while pushing and shoving their way to the optimal photospots. So while it's beautiful, there were a few disappointing components of my visit.
  • Very touristy overrated place i felt, we were coming after Mt Titlis & Mt Rigi so this was not exciting for us at all, Mt Rigi had better views and it was fully covered with swiss travel pass. For the ticket price you pay here I would say it is not soo worth, even the cable car ride didn’t have better views. Cliff walk was under maintenance, they didn’t even notify us while getting the ticket. If you visiting other mountains maybe you can research well before go here. ( not sure if I went in the wrong season to be there)
