Create an itinerary including Gruyeres Castle
Set the clock back a few centuries with a visit to Gruyeres Castle, situated in the verdant countryside against the backdrop of western Switzerland's majestic mountains. Constructed in the 13th century, the castle served as home to a long succession of local counts, who controlled this region from the 11th to the 16th centuries. Converted into a museum in 1938, the turreted castle houses a large collection of tapestries, paintings, and period furniture, allowing visitors to discover eight centuries of the region's artistic and cultural heritage. Watch the short multimedia film about the history of the castle and explore the footpaths winding their way around the property. Purchase tickets upon entrance; consider a combined ticket that gets you access to one of the nearby museums. Guided visits of the castle are available at an extra cost. • Wonderful. Bought the adult ticket. There's parking, a castle village with shops and restaurants, and the museum. See my full review at...

  • We enjoyed authentic Swiss fondue while taking in the views during our visit to Gruyères Castle. Take a short hike to this national heritage site and check out the museums, restaurants, and breathtaking landscapes. Definitely worth a visit.
  • The castle is not that big but has beautiful views and it is also a museum. If you have the swiss travel pass is free. It is a bit of a hike but we'll worth it, I recommend it.
  • A real medieval castle at the foot of the Swiss Alps. Self-guided tour, take as much or as little time as you like (we took about four hours). There’s an app, but we didn’t use it because it took too long to download its data when we launched it. Restoration works are ongoing, and the people doing the work are very forthcoming with historical perspective derived from their expertise.
  • One of the most beautiful castles I had ever seen! The spectacular view of the snow mountain gives you inner peace! Enjoy!
  • Very easy to get there by public transport. The staff at the counter is very helpful and kind. There are several museums such as the Tibetan Museum. Toilets, a souvenir shop and a restaurant are also available. Ample car parking is also available.
