Schwyz Town Hall, inaugurated in 1645, has a facade decorated with frescoes added in 1891 to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Rütli oath. It was the year 1291 when the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwaldo, in the Rütli meadow of about 5 hectares, overlooking Lake Lucerne, in the territory of the municipality of Seelisberg, allied themselves, swearing eternal loyalty against the Habsburgs. The frescoes in the town hall trace the victories of the Confederates over the Habsburgs and the formation of the Swiss Confederation.
