Pay your respects to some notable figures at Friedhof Fluntern. Narrow paths pass traverse lush trees and gravestones in this hauntingly beautiful cemetery. Of particular interest to tourists is the grave of James Joyce, renowned Irish novelist and poet, whose pensive statue keeps watch over the tomb. In addition, two Nobel Peace Prize winners are buried here, Paul Karrer and Leopold Ružička. Reach the site on foot (a bit of a hike uphill) or take the tram from the city and exit at the "Zoo" stop. A tranquil and peaceful place of final rest, it is beautifully laid out and maintained. Walking around early we were the only visitors. Grand memorials are numerous including a sculpture in stone...

Go there! James Joyce is buried there, and it's beautiful.

James Joyce and Elias Canetti in Flutern ... Thomas Mann in Kilchberg ...
-
The lovely appearing cemetery is known far beyond the borders because of the many personalities who chose it as their final resting place. James Joyce, Elias Canetti and Kurt Früh are buried here. This gives the place an upscale image, but other than that it's a nice and well-maintained property. A number of sculptures help to captivate art lovers. Overall, therefore, a place whose aesthetics are pleasantly touching.
